The elderly and technology never mix well.

So, apperently our grandparents aren't the only ones who struggle with technology. The other day an elderly Georgian woman, the country, not the state, accidentally cut off Internet capability to "90 percent of private and corporate internet users in Armenia". The story is actually pretty funny so here's the link, it's a very short article.

They article left me thinking a few things.

1. What would I say if my grandmother cut power to 90% of a small country?
2. Is it fair to give the woman a 3 year sentence?

So, how would you answer?

  1. 1) I would tell that story forever.
    2) Fuck that; I wouldn't even care if she had done it on purpose.
I wonder how different it would have turned out if she had cut off the internet for only the poor (ignoring, perhaps, that they might not have it anyways?). Outage longer than 12 hours and a story on the back page of her local newspaper?
Fine the telecom for not burying the wire deep enough that an old woman forging for copper wire could accidentally cut it.

  2. This is awesome.

They should thank Grandma for alerting them to a major flaw in their system. She should be supported by the state till the end of her days and honored once a year with a feast.

  3. That was my thoughts exactly. I don't understand why they feel the need to punish a poor old lady for really doing nothing wrong. Trying to salvage copper wire to sell, then stumbling upon a cable giving internet to amost everyone? I think that is more of a company flaw that the wire wasn't buried far enough beneath the earth, if a 75 year old lady can dig it up what was stopping a random animal from doing the same?
